How to attach a tapered leader

All Finner fly lines come with a welded loop, and all leaders include a perfection loop for easy connection. Follow these steps to attach your leader securely:

We will send you an email after your purchase, with video guides on how to attach leader and backing.

How to Attach a Leader Using a Perfection Loop

Step-by-Step Guide

- Hold the Fly Line Loop – Locate the welded loop at the end of your fly line.

- Thread the Leader Through the Fly Line Loop – Take the perfection loop at the end of your leader and pass it through the fly line loop.

- Feed the Leader Through Itself – Pull the leader butt section (thicker end) through its own loop.

- Gently Tighten the Connection – Pull both the fly line and leader ends to snug the loops together. Ensure the connection is secure but not overly tight to allow for easy changes.

This loop-to-loop connection creates a strong, seamless setup, allowing for quick leader changes without knots.

How to attach backing

To attach the backing to the fly line, we recommend using Finner braided loop connectors.

We will send you an email after your purchase, with video guides on how to attach leader and backing.

How to Attach Backing to a Fly Reel

Secure the reel and tie the backing to the spool using an arbor knot.

How to clean & maintain your fly line

To clean your fly line we recommend using Finner Fly Line Speed Boost

We will send you an email after your purchase, with video guides on how to maintain your fly line.

Before every fishing session apply Fly Line Speed Boost to the entire length of floating lines. Apply only to the running line on sinking lines. At the end of the season wipe the line with a damp cloth on the entire length then apply Fly Line Speed Boost.

What weight fly line should I get?

Match the line weight to the rod rating. For instance, if you have a 7 weight rod get a 7 weight line.

If the rod has 2 numbers on it (6/7 for instance) then match it with the heavier number, 7 in this case. If it's rated 7/8, get an 8 weight line and so on.

Choosing the right head length

- Short Heads: 3 x rod length
- Quick and compact
- Great for tight spaces
- Ideal for beginners

- Mid-Length Heads: 4 x rod length
- Best all-rounder,
- Provides a balance of control and distance

- Long Heads: 5-6 x rod length
- Offers longer, more stable casts
- Requires better technique and control
- Harder to cast, especially for beginners

Choosing the right taper

Short, Blunt Taper
- Loads the rod quickly
- Generates more power for casting
- Ideal for:
- Big flies
- Streamers
- Windy conditions

Long, Gradual Taper
- Smooth energy transfer for precise casting
- Delicate presentations with soft landings
- Best for:
- Dry flies
- Nymphs
- Small wets

Mid-Diameter Taper
- Balanced performance between power and finesse
- Versatile for varied fly sizes and conditions
- A great all-around choice for most anglers

Great quality for a brilliant price

Great quality for a brilliant price. I've used it a few times since buying and it rolls out lovely and straight with each cast.

2 weight Creek line

This is my favourite small stream line. Presentation is delicate & it loads quickly for relatively short casts. It also roll casts well.

Just perfect!

I have used only lines from Finner for over two years and am delighted.

Great to hear Harry. Your positivity and the time taken to leave a review is much appreciated by the Finner Team.

One of my favourites

I already have the two and three weight lines, they cast really well and present very delicately. I find them particularly good in conditions you might normally use a line several weights heavier.

Delicate presentation at distance

I have the 3wt line. It presents neatly. Perfect for those skittish fish that require a delicate presentation at distance. The only thing to note is that you really need 30ft of line out to properly load the rod, but that is what I expected. I plan to carry this spool in my bag to swap on when I encounter those conditions requiring longer casts and delicate presentations.

Day on the stream made easy

The line performed well. The 5wt line was able to reach the spots I needed with little effort. Turned over nice. I wish they made this line in larger sizes works nice.

Fly line for stealth approach

I have found this fly line a great advantage in casting on my local Derbyshire Wye. It turns over well and doesn’t disturb the water, a great improvement on fly line design
